Cisco IoT Hackathon
Industry-Academia collaboration with AIUB: Combining Knowledge & Action
On July 28th, 2018 American International University of Bangladesh (AIUB) Continuing Education Center organized the ‘Cisco IoT Hackathon 2018’.
Beyond Innovations & Technologies Limited was an event partner for the hackathon.
98 teams registered to participate in the event. Among them, 20 teams from different universities, including BUET, RUET, KUET, and AIUB, participated in the final round. The day-long event included an exhibition, grooming, and Bootcamp session of the innovative ideas of the participating teams.
3 teams were declared winners at the final verdict of the judges. The Dhaka Residential Model College winning team collected 50,000 BDT for their project “Huma Rescuable Car/ Human Detectable Car.” A Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) team with an ” IQbator ” project was the first runner-up in the competition. The joint second runner-up was RUET’s “Firm in Every Home,” an IoT Based Transformer Monitoring System project. The second and third-place winners collected 30,000 BDT and 20,000 BDT, respectively.
Cisco Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Maldives Program Manager Kalhari Kaluarachchi and Country General Manager (Bangladesh) at Cisco Systems, Mr. Fakhruddin Ahmed, were present at the award ceremony.
The hackathon judges were from Rajshahi University, Jahangirnagar University, and American International University – Bangladesh (AIUB).
Md. Manirul Islam, Director of the Institute of Continuing Education and Associate Professor of the Department of Computer Science, convened and conducted the event.
Such arrangements have made the country’s students proficient in the IoT sector.
